French Vintage 3 Drawer Haberdashery Chest/Sewing Thread Display Box
Have nothing in your houses that you do not consider to be beautiful or useful. French Vintage 3 Drawer Haberdashery Chest/Sewing Thread Display Box. These display boxes were provided by the large manufacturers of cotton articles and this one was for the storage of threads made by the Thiriez & Cartier Bresson (the photographers family business) in the late 1930s 1940s. Later boxes were made of plastic. The box is 12.3/8 inches wide, 14 ¼ inches deep and stands 6 5/8 inches high.
It is constructed of light balsa wood and covered with a thick leather-like paper. The sides are stamped Thiriez & Cartier Bresson and the top has 3 somewhat faded gold stamps and logos. Very solidly made, it weighs 6.1 lbs or 3 kgs. Each drawer measures 13 7/8 inches by 11 ¾ inches and are 1 ¾ inches high. Each one has a small knob and a brass label holder and is stamped with the manufacturers logos.
All drawers have are lined with the original white paper which show traces of use. It is in very good condition overall with minor traces of wear and use on the bottom and drawer edges. The base has been relined at one point with a thick felt pad to prevent scratching. An unusual item it could be used to store stationary, desk items, sewing notions, fishing lures or serving pieces for example.Vintage and antique objects have lived and been used and because of that, they sometimes show it. The condition of the object is described as accurately as possible, including its character flaws. But that is really part of the attraction and enjoyment of an old piece.
