The original fair award seal and sticker comes with the jewelry box. My research tells me that "Janis" could be used as the month of June. However, "Janis" could also be the proper name for the pearl set with "5/15" added. Will have to let you experts out there figure that one out.
La Tausca was known for their high end faux and authentic pearls during this time period and their display boxes were outstandingly beautiful as one can see. Their beautiful boxes were probably one of the reasons for winning the gold medal. The seal says the pearls were French but the box has no markings. However, jewelry boxes produced by La Tausca in the early 1920's carry a US patent. Therefore, I believe this jewelry box was also produced in the United States but at an earlier date for the San Francisco World's Fair.
I would think the pearls were French made as stated on the ribbon sticker. At the time, the main office for La Tausca was located in New York City. In 1915 one of the largest producers of rhinestones was Swarovski. The jewelry box is complete with its upper shelf insert to display the pearl necklace when the lid was opened. The inside original lining of the jewelry box is in great condition for its age. However, age and wear is. Commensurate and there are some slight issues as noted in the photos. The company name "La Tausca" is clearly visible. The jewelry box measures approximately 6 X 3 1/8 X 2 1/2 inches and is rectangular in shape. The jewelry box is very ornate with a multitude of bezel set rhinestones in different shapes and cabochons. The hinges and lid works well and the box closes securely. The brass has a nice patina and the wear on the box is commensurate with age.
